About this Retreat

Instead of struggling for months and months (or even years!) to get out that first painful draft, wouldn't it be nice to learn some tricks to pumping the words out in a fraction of that time?

WHAT IT IS:

The retreat begins before you even leave home. New York Times-bestseller and fast drafter extraordinaire Beth Revis will lead an online workshop on her four-act story structure which is beloved by past Wordsmith attendees for a reason! When you establish a solid structure to work from, the words flow much more easily.

You'll then have one-on-one Zoom meetings with both Beth and Cristin to iron out any problem areas of your plot, flesh out characters and emotional arcs, and prepare for the retreat. During this time, you'll also be brainstorming with your fellow writers, feeding off of each other's creative energy so that you're ready and eager to hit the ground running when you get to Texas.

Once you're at the ranch, the bulk of your time will be free for packing those words in, but we'll also do plot and story structure refreshers and hold fun and affirming roundtable critiques. Beth and Cristin will also be available anytime you need some one-on-one help or to hold an impromptu discussion about elements of craft or the business of publishing.

By the time the last s'more has been roasted and we're all ready to leave the ranch, you should have a solid story structure, a whole lot of words, and a bunch of new writing friends!

WHERE IT IS:

El Rancho Mas is a beautiful and private sixteen acre property in Wimberley, TX, just forty-five minutes from the international airport in Austin. The extensive grounds include a pool, hot tub, air-conditioned party barn, meditation garden, and numerous cozy nooks both indoors and outdoors for settling in and getting to work.
