About this Retreat

Join NYT-bestseller Beth Revis and award-winner Cristin Terrill on the beautiful Gulf Coast for five days of learning, writing, relaxation, and fun!

In a beautiful ocean-front home in the peaceful beach town of Waveland, Missisisippi, you'll spend five days with an intimate group of no more than twelve writers, learning craft tips and publishing secrets from Beth and Cristin in a series of informative and interaction workshops.

You'll also meet with each author one-on-one for a critique of your current manuscript. Beth focuses on the big picture, examining your structure and plot via a five-page synopsis and helping you troubleshoot problem areas, while Cristin gets into the nitty-gritty of your first 2,500 words, offering tips to refine things like characterization, voice, and style. Together this gives you a holistic overview of your work.

Have more questions or need further advice during the week? No problem, because you'll be eating, writing and hanging out alongside the authors everyday, and they are always happy to help.

After the morning dedicated to learning, your afternoons are free for you to get some serious words in. Grab a lounge chair on the porch or spread out on a couch and get to work! Need to take a break? Grab a new friend for a walk on the beach or settle in for a night of movies and popcorn.

On Saturday, we'll take a group field trip to nearby New Orleans to refill our creative wells by taking in the unique and evocative atmosphere of the French Quarter. There's something here for everyone: haunted mansions and voodoo shops for paranormal writers, the rich history and architecture for the historical writers, the stories of the Axeman of New Orleans and Madame LaLaurie for the thriller/horror writers, and all the beignets and gumbo you can eat for the rest of us! In between exploring (and eating), you'll work on writing exercises designed to help you draw inspiration from the world around you and use it to create rich settings and characters in your own work.

You'll return home with new words written, new enthusiasm for your project, and new friends to join you on your publishing journey. Join us and laissez les bon temps rouler!
