The best writers are readers, we all know that! But let’s take reading to a whole new level by combining a retreat with reading and writing. A few months before the retreat, you’ll have a chance to nominate a book for the group to read, and we’ll vote on one that everyone at the retreat reads prior to meeting up, with online discussions. 

 

Then we’ll put on our writing hats. At the retreat, you’ll learn how to structure story by analyzing how the selected book hit plot beats. You’ll discuss world, character, and story for your book by critically examining the book club novel. Whether you loved or hated the book, there’s something to learn!

 

In addition to impassioned discussion about literature and workshops that help you grow writing skills through reading skills, you’ll have time at the ranch for writing and working on you novel in a serene setting. Beth and Cristin will also be available the entire time to talk through plot problems and character development. 

 

In between the s’mores and our catered meals, you’ll have the chance to really explore what makes story work—and gain some new reading and writing buddies!

El Rancho Mas is a beautiful and private sixteen acre property in Wimberley, TX, just forty-five minutes from the international airport in Austin. The extensive grounds include a pool, hot tub, sauna, air-conditioned party barn, meditation garden, and numerous cozy nooks both indoors and outdoors for settling in and getting to work. 

 

The ranch is also home to literary support pups Minnie Pearl and Dolly Parton, who love all the pets but can also be kept separate from you if you have allergies or any other issue.

This retreat is open to anyone! Our retreats are designed to be the most beneficial to those seriously pursuing publication, but anyone who wants to learn and have some fun is welcome!
